December 9, 2016 - Well, I guess that Judy and I have been bitten by the holiday bug this year since today we went to our second holiday open house of the season. Our destination is right here in Redlands, the iconic Kimberly Crest Mansion. The Kimberly Crest House & Gardens is an 1897 French château-style Victorian Mansion surrounded by Italian Renaissance Gardens. The three-story Victorian mansion was designed by Oliver Perry Dennis and Lyman Farwell and contains over 7,000 square feet of floor space. A near replica, now known as The Magic Castle, was designed by the same architects and erected in Hollywood in 1909. The name "Kimberly" comes from Alfred Kimberly, the second owner of the mansion. He was a founder and president of the Kimberly-Clark paper company. Photography is never allowed inside, which is really unfortunate since the Christmas decorations we saw can only live as memories for us. They are spectacular. |
