July 6, 2024 - Saturday - Today we drove down into the Silverado Canyon of Orange County to visit the Norbertine Fathers of St. Michael’s Abbey.  The Norbertine Fathers live a common life of liturgical prayer and care for souls.  The abbey consists of over fifty priests and nearly forty seminarians studying for the priesthood.  The Norbertines are an old Catholic religious order dating back to 1120 AD.

This building houses the administrative offices and the visitors' center.

Our tour started after the noon mass, so we listened as the fathers sang in Latin.

This was our tour guide.

The abbey is beautiful and it's only four years old.  I believe it cost $120 million to build.

Before the abbey, we had lunch at our Silverado Canyon favorite, the Silverado Cafe.

Judy had carne asada tacos and she asked for a side of fruit.  Look what she was served!

I went for their chorizo and eggs and both dishes were great.
