May 22, 2024 - Wednesday - Today we were in Claremont, CA to visit a museum that we haven't frequented in seven years. The Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College, known as the Benton, is an art museum at Pomona College.  It was completed in 2020, replacing the Montgomery Art Gallery, which had been home to the Pomona College Museum of Art since 1958.  It houses a collection of approximately 19,000 items, including Italian Renaissance panel paintings, indigenous American art and artifacts, and American and European prints, drawings, and photographs.

There are currently four exhibits on display but we were captivated with the exhibit about Cahuilla Basket Weavers called Continuity.

This eight foot "basket" is made of beer and soda cans by Gerald Clarke.

There's a section devoted to archival photographs of some of the Cahuilla basket weavers.

The museum is beautiful and is now surrounded by blooming rose bushes.

Before the museum we stopped for lunch at the nearby The Hat restaurant.

I had their "world famous" pastrami sandwich with mustard and pickles.

Judy went for their BBQ Beef sandwich.

Both sandwiches were big and delicious and we both finished each one.
