December 27, 2024 - Friday - For our last adventure of 2024, we decided on a trip to Riverside, CA to see the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture & Industry of the Riverside Art Museum, or The Cheech. It is a collaborative effort between stand-up comedian, actor, and writer Cheech Marin, who donated his collection of more than 700 pieces of Chicano art, the City of Riverside, which provided the facilities to house the collection, and the Riverside Art Museum, which manages the center. Currently the entire second floor of the museum highlights the art of Yolanda López. Yolanda Margarita López (November 1, 1942 – September 3, 2021) was an American painter, printmaker, educator, and film producer. She was known for her Chicana feminist works focusing on the experiences of Mexican-American women, often challenging the ethnic stereotypes associated with them.
We enjoyed our second visit to the Cheech even more than our first.
Before the museum, we had lunch at our Riverside favorite, Tio's Tacos.
Judy had her usual cheese enchilada mole (sauce) with rice and beans.
I had my usual shrimp with garlic sauce but today it tasted especially good.
