October 25, 2024 - Friday - We were in Claremont, CA today to see the latest exhibit at the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art called "Phil Dike: A Bird’s Eye View." The exhibit looks at the work of one of Claremont’s most renowned painters from the last century, who was born and raised in Redlands. The exhibit presents significant works from his favored high point of view ("Bird's Eye") as well as his abstract approach to California scenes.
Our favorite was "Day at the Plaza," shown below.
Here's Phil's self-portrait, painted in Paris in the 1930s.
Before the museum we had lunch at Aruffo's Italian Cuisine.
Their home baked bread is a meal in itself.
We both had the same entrées, "Bucatini Carbonara" which has a classic custard cream sauce, pecorino, capocollo, cracked peppercorns, and fresh bucatini pasta.
It was a lovely day.
