May 25, 2020 - Memorial Day - Monday - Today we were in Loma Linda, CA to see "Operation SoCal Strong" hosted by the Commemorative Air Force Inland Empire Wing. An 18-plane formation of historic warbirds flew the skies above the Inland Empire, Orange County and Los Angeles County today. The Inland Empire Wing’s Riverside-based “D-Day Doll,” a Douglas C-53D manufactured in 1943 to carry paratroopers and cargo in World War II, led the formation, which also featured C-47 transports, P-40 Warhawks and P-51 Mustangs. We found a nice spot overlooking the Loma Linda Medical Center and the property owners let us park in their driveway.
However, we were pleasantly surprised when they invited us, and one professional photographer, to take pictures from their backyard, which was beautiful and it had a breathtaking view of the valley.
The planes didn't fly at a very low altitude, but we were still able to pick them up.
It was a very memorable day and we had a beautiful setting to watch the planes fly by.
And here's the D-Day Doll in the air.
