December 12, 2017 - Today we were in Century City to see a new store that opened in October 2017. Eataly is the largest Italian marketplace in the world, comprising a variety of restaurants, food and beverage counters, a bakery, retail items, and a cooking school. Eataly was founded by Oscar Farinetti in 2007 with the first Eataly in Turin, Italy. There are now 39 Eataly locations around the world. Covering 67,000 square feet, Eataly L.A. surpassed Eataly Chicago to become the largest Eataly in the United States. Even though we knew it was a big operation before we went through the door, we weren't prepared to be completely overwhelmed by it, and we were. All of the pasta is made here, as are all of the breads, gelato, pastries and even their mozzarella cheese. There are three restaurants within Eataly and we decided to try La Pizza & La Pasta today. We had two entrées to share and their "Spaghettini" blew us away. It's a classic Roman dish made with two cheeses: Parmigiano-Reggiano and Pecorino Romano. It's then lightly dusted with black pepper and it is wonderful. Our pizza was their "Quattro Formaggi" with Mozzarella di Bufula from Napoli, Gorgonzola, Grana Padano, Pecorino Romano, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil. We loved everything here, especially our lunch, and we shared it all with our nephew Eddie Bates. It was a great adventure! |
