March 15, 2025 - Saturday - Judy and I made a short trip today to visit the Edward-Dean Museum in Cherry Valley, CA.  This beautiful building was built in 1957 and the museum opened its doors in 1958.  The museum features late 16th to early 19th century European & Asian Decorative Arts.  Their latest exhibit is called "History of Timekeeping."  This is the first time we've been here since 2023, since in the past two years they haven't had any new exhibits.

It's a small exhibit, but it is very informative.  There's a timeline showing the history of various timekeepers including sand, water and incense clocks, astrolabes, up through atomic and nuclear clocks.  Most of the clocks displayed were from the 18th, 19th and 20th century.

This George Washington clock is stunning.

The piece next to the hourglass is an incense clock.  If an incense pellet burned for two hours, the smoke would stop and you'd place another burning pellet in the container, and so on during the day.

All of the pieces come from the Edward-Dean collection.

Before the museum we had brunch at Clarkie's Diner in Calimesa, a short drive away.

I had their California scrambler with home fries and salsa.

Judy had a delicious pecan and blueberry waffle.
