October 3, 2010 - In July 1934 at the corner of Third and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Farmers' Market opened for business selling fresh fruit and vegetables. After seventy five years it's still going strong. The property is part of the original 256 acre dairy farm owned by A. F. Gilmore that was later found to contain oil. The dairy business was sold off and oil exploration commenced. The Gilmore Oil Company business started here in 1905. The retail price at that time was 17¢ a gallon. This is Doris Perez scooping out some fresh peanut butter for us at Magee's House of Nuts. Doris has a long history at the Farmers' Market, since she has worked at various shops here since 1963.
