February 21, 2025 - Friday - Today we were in Orange, CA to see several new exhibits at the Hilbert Museum of California Art. The first exhibit we saw is called "Undiminished: Heroines of California Art." This exhibition showcases more than 30 remarkable works by several of California’s outstanding female artists, including Elsie Palmer Payne, Elanor Colburn, Henrietta Berk, Mabel Alvarez, Betye Saar, Burr Singer, and others.
The one below is called "Thrifty Drug Store."
The one below was painted by Henrietta Berk.
This painting looks like a photograph.
The one below is by Agnes Pelton.
The one below is also by Henrietta Berk.
The second exhibit is called "Timothy J. Clark: Going Places." This exhibition features nearly 40 luminous watercolors by Clark, a modern-master figurative painter whose expressive interiors, urban landscapes, portraits, figures and still lifes have been celebrated in exhibitions throughout the country.
The third exhibit is called "Somebody to Love: Selected Portraits from The Hilbert Collection." An array of handpicked portrait paintings, drawings, and prints that offer more than one piece for guests to fall in love with, from iconic celebrities to insightful portrayals of everyday individuals.
The one below is called "Blonde Warhol."
This is a portrait of the owner, Mark Hilbert.
Before the exhibit, we stopped for lunch at the Zinc Cafe, also located in Orange.
I had their "Pepperoni Red Pepper Pizza" with pepperoni, roasted red peppers, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, and tomato sauce.
Judy had their "Lemon Ricotta Pancakes" with ricotta cheese, lemon zest, berries, and maple syrup.
It was a wonderful day! |
