March 21, 2020 - Saturday - Our series of adventures came to a dramatic stop since the Coronavirus outbreak and the unusual rainy season in southern California. However, today we did manage to get out to visit the nearby Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands, CA. The cemetery was established in 1886 by local pioneers Frank Brown and Edward Judson to serve the needs of the community of Redlands. Hillside Memorial Park has been owned and operated by the City of Redlands since 1918. Its 53 acres makes it the largest city-owned cemetery in California. The fully mature cypress trees give it a wonderful atmosphere.
This section is called Veterans' Lane, for recently deceased members of the Armed Forces.
What a name, Philetus F. Bugbee! I wonder what the "F." stood for, it must have been something good.
It's a wonderful place to visit and enjoy.
Alas, all of the restaurants are closed, so our meal today was only bacon and tomato sandwiches at home. |
