April 3, 2024 - Wednesday - Today we were in downtown Los Angeles for a real treat. Our destination was The Last Bookstore, located on Spring Street. The Last Bookstore is an independent bookstore that Conde Nast Traveler has called California’s largest new and used bookstore. The store is 22,000 square feet and is currently located in a former bank building with books on two levels, including in the former bank vault.
It's pretty overwhelming when you first walk in.
You can only sit on sofas for an hour.
The book tunnel is unique.
For a short video shot from the second floor click here.
There are artists' studios on the second floor.
I guess you could call this a hole in the stacks.
Fascinating and enjoyable.
Before the bookstore, we had brunch at Maddalena's Restaurant in the San Antonio Winery. It was nice to get back here since our last visit was before the Covid pandemic.
All of the entrées are displayed, there isn't a menu.
Judy chose their Chicken Marsala.
I had their Santa Rosa pasta with Arrabbiata sauce and sausages.
Both dishes were great and we had enough leftovers to take home. |
