December 7, 2023 - Thursday - Today we were in Pasadena, CA to see the latest exhibit at the Norton Simon Museum. Benevolent Beings: Buddhas and Bodhisattvas from South and Southeast Asia brings together 42 works of art to explore the diverse ways in which Buddhas, bodhisattvas and other protective deities have been seen to offer blessings, guidance and security to their devotees. Note: A Buddha is someone who discovers the path to enlightenment while a bodhisattva is someone training to become a Buddha.
Most all of the Buddhas were named, spelled out with about 15-25 letters, so I didn't write them down.
It's a very interesting exhibit and we were amazed at the age of works displayed. The oldest one we saw was crafted between 100-150 C.E. The rest were generally 1,000 to 1,500 years old.
Before the museum we stopped for lunch at an old Pasadena favorite, Lucky Baldwin's Pub.
This restaurant is like an old English pub and the fish 'n chips are a must. Judy had a half order with Cole slaw on the side.
I went for the full order (two pieces) with a side of peas. The fish is excellent and the batter is perfect.
