January 6, 2022 - Thursday - Today we were back in Pioneertown, CA to do some hiking on the Sawtooth Loop Trail in the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve. The Preserve is maintained by the Wildlands Conservancy and it spans over 25,000 acres. In 2006, the vast majority of the Joshua trees, pinyon pines and junipers at Pioneertown Mountains Preserve were killed in a 70,000 acre lightning fire.
A lot of the trail was washed out from last week's rain.
That's Mt. San Gorgonio covered with snow in the background.
As we were leaving, a group of horse riders were going in.
We only hiked a couple of miles today, since this trail is notorious for hikers getting lost.
After our hike we had lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace.
Judy had their pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw and BBQ sauce.
I had two appetizers, the first being chili with tender tri-tip beef, shredded cheese and green onion.
Then it was nachos with pinto beans, jack, cheddar, sour cream, green onion and jalapenos.
It's a fun place with Country and Western music blaring and a great crowd. Even Paul McCartney played here in 2016.
