January 7, 2021 - Thursday - Today we drove into the high desert to visit the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Sculpture Museum. Noah S. Purifoy was an African-American visual artist and sculptor, who also co-founded the Watts Towers Art Center as well as this museum in the desert. It's located on 10 acres of open land near the town of Joshua Tree, CA and contains over one hundred works of art. Going in, we knew it was going to be different.
Those are bowling balls in the center.
While some just look like junk and others are incomprehensible, others really capture your eye and are quite pleasing. Restaurants are tough in the desert, so we enjoyed some soft tacos at Taco Bell.
"I do not wish to be an artist. I only wish that art enables me to be." - Noah Purifoy, 1963
