July 24, 2024 - Wednesday - Today we were in Riverside, CA to visit the Riverside Art Museum. Our primary interest was in the new exhibit called "Before You Now: Capturing the Self in Portraiture." The exhibition is an introduction to seeing American artists as they see themselves, or as they want to be seen by their public.
An extensive renovation and restoration of the museum will start shortly, and there's an exhibit about what's to occur.
Julia Morgan, the original architect of the building, is given a prominent tribute.
The picture below shows Morgan's original design for the building, as the Y.W.C.A.
This is the main exhibit we came to see, with a large number of celebrity self portraits.
Diane Arbus
A very young Andy Warhol.
Robert Mapplethorpe
Man Ray
This small exhibit called "Plastic Bodies" is very amusing.
This last exhibit scientifically analyzed the art of cheerleading.
Although we haven't always enjoyed some of the exhibits here, today was a hit. Before the museum, we had brunch at our Riverside favorite, Tio's Tacos.
Judy had her usual cheese enchiladas with mole sauce.
And I had my usual shrimp with garlic sauce.
