January 22, 2025 - Wednesday - Today we headed down into the desert to the city of Coachella. Our destination was the Temalpakh Farm. Temalpakh represents the values and the culture of the Augustine Band of the Cahuilla Indians who run it, and it carries out a mission to create a sustainable lifestyle for the residents of the Coachella Valley. Everything that Temalpakh Farm grows is certified USDA organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).
To see a one minute YouTube video of the farm click here.
The landscaped grounds are beautiful and are surrounded by their gardens and date groves. The Temalpakh Farm Market is at the center of everything.
The produce is beautiful and is very reasonably priced.
After the farm, we stopped at the nearby Augustine Casino. The Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians is a federally recognized Cahuilla band of Native Americans based in Coachella, CA. They are one of the smallest tribal nations in the United States, consisting of only 16 members, seven of whom are adults.
Judy lost a little but I won, so we pretty much broke even. Our day started at the Jalisco Restaurant in downtown Coachella.
Judy had a chili relleno that was very good.
I had grilled shrimp with a Ranchera sauce, which was also delicious.
The avocado on our salads was a nice touch. |
