February 15, 2024 - Thursday - Today our adventure was to go to the nearby Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art, located on the campus of Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The current exhibition is "Seeing the Unseen: Math and Art," which is a group exhibition featuring works of art that investigate the intersections of mathematics and the arts. The featured artists approach their work from unique perspectives, some trained as mathematicians that create visual and dimensional expressions of their studies, some as studio artists that use mathematics as a conceptual foundation and guiding system in their creative practices.
The short story about this exhibit is that it is complicated. There's an extensive brochure outlining all of the works presented and I simply cannot explain each one.
The artist below created all of his drawings by hand, using standard architectural tools. They aren't computer generated.
These are paper sculptures.
The paper unicorn is an origami work that was transformed into a metal sculpture. The unfolded unicorn on the wall behind it was also transformed into a metal piece.
It's fascinating and a little over my head, but the view was nice.
After the museum we stopped for lunch at Septembers Taproom & Eatery.
Judy had their meat loaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was great!
I had their chicken and waffle sandwich with a side of onion rings. Both portions were huge.
